Tracks of the Baw Baws Beast?
Is it a Thylacine?

Thylacine tracks? ( 24/9/98)These are the tracks described on the previous page, taken in the Baw Baws Ranges, Victoria. It's been suggested to me that the longish heel impression behind the rear paw, together with the 5 toed imprint from the front pad, is likely to have been made by a Thylacine. A very large specimen in this case.

The idea makes some sense - the Baw Baws are more-or-less due north of Wilson's Promontory where, there have been many sightings of Thylacines. The "Wonthaggi Beast" is a figure of legend, after all. Such animals have had only to make it across the Strzlecki Ranges and they'd be into the Victorian highlands and home safe. Or, of course, travelling in the reverse direction denizens of the Victorian Alps would have only to cross the LaTrobe Valey to the Strzeleckis and Wilson's Prom. Nowadays that journey would involve crossing many miles of open farm land. But back in 1910?
